Evelyn Glennie with Aldbourne Band
Evelyn Glennie OBE is not only the first person to successfully create and sustain a full-time career as a solo percussionist in the history of classical music, but is redefining the goals and expectations of percussion students, orchestras, concert promoters and the general public the world over. What takes Evelyn a step beyond others is that she combines her superb technical abilities, a profound appreciation of the visual elements of percussion along with her astonishing musicality to create performances of such stunning vitality that they almost constitute a new type of performance.
Evelyn is joined by the Aldbourne Band from Wiltshire in this exciting collaboration. Aldbourne is one of the finest Brass Bands in the south of England and in their 146 year history has built a reputation of high-quality entertaining concert performances through modern, pop, classical, musical-show and military themes.
The concert will present an eclectic programme of compositions for percussion and brass featuring a wide range of tuned and drum percussion instrumentation showcasing Evelyn’s unique talents. The visual presentation will leave the audience breathless at Evelyn’s speed of movement and dexterity around the entire musical ensemble!
One of the featured items is the premier of a new composition work for brass and percussion, “UFO”. Written originally for solo percussion and orchestra, by Michael Daugherty, this work was commissioned by the US National Symphony Orchestra. UFO is inspired by the unidentified flying objects that have been an obsession in American popular culture since 1947. “Objects” from the works has now been transcribed and will be presented in the concert.
Prepare to be amazed in this wonderful, dynamic, concert.
