Ice and Environmental Change
A talk by Professor Julian Dowdeswell, Director of the Scott Polar Research Institute, University of Cambridge.
Friday 10 March 2006, 7 for 7.30pm, Admission £4, students £2
Bath Royal Literary & Scientific Institution, Queen Square, Bath,

Scientists increasingly report that the Antarctic ice is melting, adding to an inexorable rise in global sea levels. Concern is growing over polar bears who are drowning in large numbers as a result of having to swim large distances, because of the extraordinary retreat of the Arctic ice. At both ends of the earth, these icy environments are at risk.

Professor Julian Dowdeswell, Director of the Scott Polar Research Institute, University of Cambridge is coming to give a talk at BRLSI on ‘Ice and Environmental Change’ on Friday 10th March 2006, 7 for 7.30pm. He will be discussing the nature of climate change in the Arctic and Antarctic, how this is affecting the great ice sheets and glaciers and the impact on sea level rise and global ocean circulation. It will be illustrated with photographs of the glaciers and the wildlife that survives in the harsh polar environment.

This will be a fundraising event for the Diamond Jubilee of the Friends of the Scott Polar Research Institute.
